Desktop Search Programs Print E-mail
Written by Maria Antonietta Ricagno

Everybody knows how difficult can be to find a file, or an old e-mail or even a picture in a computer overcrowded by a huge amount of archived files and documents. And how quickly any computer can pile up any kind of stuff, either useful or not, recent or old.

But technology will save us all! A new family of software programs is now available to overcome the problem of searching files: they are the desktop search programs, and the most popular are Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, AOL and the newcomer Blinkx.

Translating Poetry Print E-mail
Written by malka omer
Has any of you ever experienced the agony of translating a poem?

I guess agony is not the only term that descibe the  whole thing.

Confusion is also there, and exhaustion as well. The agony that every translator feels when one undertakes the arduous task of translating any piece of work. The task of being faithful to the source text or author.

How the World Has Changed Print E-mail
Written by arwa Mustafa

Leaving politics, wars and all that is related to them aside let me tell you how life in Iraq has affected me or the part of me that is the translator not (the person, the woman, the mother or simply the human being!)

You all must have had computers and access to the internet for years. As for us we've only had this privilege for 3 years.

THE TRANSLATOR’S PRAYER Print E-mail
Written by Manon-Josée Caron

THE TRANSLATOR’S PRAYER

O Reviser which art unbearable,

Pitiless be Thy rigour.

Thy fall shall come

Thy will shall be ignored,

On Earth as it is in Heaven.

Yield on this day

Before our objections of every day

And forgive us our mistranslations,

As we forgive your atrocities.

Let us not succumb to the temptation

Of taking advantage of TERMIUM

Instead of using the library,

But deliver us from gallicisms.

For Thy word is law

For ever and ever,

Amen.
